Position Summary
The Safety Specialist (Field Operations) is responsible for supporting safety execution across off-site and field operations while contributing to the development and continuous improvement of corporate safety programs.
This role combines strong field presence with program development responsibilities, including policy review, SOP creation, and project-based safety initiatives. The Safety Specialist will work closely with multiple sites and departments to improve overall safety performance, promote consistency in standards, and support the adoption of best practices across the organization.
The focus is on reinforcing expectations in the field while helping build practical, usable safety systems that support operations and drive continuous improvement across all locations. As the corporate safety program continues to evolve, this role is expected to expand in scope to support broader global operations beginning in 2027.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Support
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and safety audits across North America
- Lead and support incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Provide on-site coaching to supervisors and field personnel
- Deliver practical safety training (e.g., LOTO, working at heights, equipment operation)
- Support implementation of the Off-Site Safety Program and Coda documentation requirements
- Verify compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards
- Identify hazards and work with teams to implement effective controls
Policy & SOP Development
- Review develop and maintain existing Safety Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Develop, update, and standardize SOPs
- Ensure policies and procedures align with regulatory requirements and operational realities
- Support rollout and communication of new or revised policies and SOPs
- Provide field-driven feedback to improve usability and adoption
- Lead standardization of safety documentation, forms and processes across all sites.
Project Work & Program Support
- Participate in and support corporate safety initiatives (e.g., LOTO rollout, rigging standardization, working alone program)
- Assist in implementation of new safety programs across departments and regions
- Collaborate with engineering, PMO, service, and installation teams to address safety-related risks and design challenges
- Support development of training materials tied to new programs and procedures
Cross-Site Collaboration
- Work with multiple sites to identify gaps and improve overall safety performance
- Promote consistency in safety expectations, documentation, and execution
- Share best practices and lessons learned across regions and teams
- Support alignment of safety standards as part of broader North America operations and future global expansion
Training & Development
- Deliver both classroom and hands-on safety training
- Support Train-the-Trainer initiatives and assist in evaluating trainer competency
- Identify training gaps and recommend solutions to improve workforce competency
Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in safety within manufacturing, construction, or field service environments
- Strong knowledge of OH&S regulations (Canada and USA)
- Experience in policy development and SOP creation
- Experience delivering safety training (classroom and practical)
- Strong ability to influence, coach, and build relationships in field environments
- Solid understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment processes
- Strong investigation and problem-solving skills
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
Education & Professional Development
- 3 to 5 years experience in Safety Programs
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred
- Professional designation (CRST, CRSP, or working toward) considered an asset
- Commitment to continuous professional development and ongoing education
- Willingness to pursue additional certifications and industry training
